As we head ever closer to winter, a coat is the first thing on our new season wish list. This season the style that stands out as the clear favourite is the trench coat because of its classic shape meaning it will never date or go out of fashion.
All the high end designers including Balenciaga, Burberry and Maxmara have brought out their own style as they know this sophisticated style is a firm favourite with shoppers.
There are plenty of different looks out there for your trench coat, whether you prefer something classic or more of a style statement.
For the fashion forward among us, printing is a huge trend this season so why not incorporate it into your trench coat? Simpler patterns such as Gingham work well, but to make a real fashion statement opt for a bright Japanese floral print.

If you don’t fancy going back to basics but a printed coat is a little too much, try a coloured trench. Aubergine is a perfect autumn/winter shade and will look great with skinny jeans and killer heels or even over your favourite LBD on a cold evening out with the girls. Delicate detailing around the collar or sleeves adds extra style flair and a full pleated skirt gives you a perfect hourglass figure.

When classic styling requires a classic colour, you can’t go wrong with black or beige. Safe enough to go with any outfit, this really is a look that will continue to be on trend for many seasons to come. To make a subtle trench stand out from the crowd choose a coat with elegant detailing such as contrasting buttons or piping.

Armed with your new trench coat you will be ready for whatever the winter weather throws at you, and will be sure to look ultra-chic doing it!

I know I've got my eye on the aubergine one *love*
